About Us

My name is Ann Mayfield and food is my passion. I grew up in small town Virginia, Glade Spring. All my life, I lived on a farm and was taught the value of hard work and good work ethics.

After finishing with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business with a Marketing Emphasis with an Art Minor from Milligan College, I decided that I wanted to specialize in Pastry Arts. As soon as I finished college in Tennessee, I headed to Charleston, SC to “Garnish my degree” with a specialty degree in Pastry Arts from Johnson & Wales University. While in Charleston, I worked under a French pastry chef for a catering company named Events by Duvall. We catered full service events from $1000.00 to $350,000.00. It was amazing the knowledge that I learned from working with that company.

From there, I went to work at Seabrook Island as the Executive Pastry Chef and Wedding Cake Designer. In that position, I did everything from all levels of Restaurant Menus, Caterings, and Worked with Brides to customize wedding cake designs and flavors.

I moved to Myrtle Beach in order to be closer to the love of my life, My Husband, Lee Mayfield. When I moved to a different area, I decided to mesh my degrees and work in Food Sales as a Marketing Representative for Sysco Foods. During that 6 ½ years, I gained great knowledge in the industry on all levels as well as networked. After careful thought, my husband and I decided that it was time to take a chance on my dreams. I opened “Buttercream” , a cake and catering company. This was simply a way to combine my knowledge, love of hospitality and passion for food with my business degree.

At Buttercream, we want every event, no matter how large of small to be enjoyable. From lunch caterings, showers, private house parties, to full service caterings serving up to 500 guests, we aim to please. I love taking care of clients, and I love preparing food and cakes that brings a smile to people’s faces.
